Morocco Itinerary – 5 Days Tour

Day 1 Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Tizi n’Tichka Pass – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate (Approx. 4 Hours Drive)

The 5-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or airport in Marrakech. Travel through the stunning High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping for panoramic views of the breathtaking landscapes. Visit the historic Kasbah of Telouet before continuing to the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its appearances in films like Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as series like Game of Thrones. Then head to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay in a comfortable hotel.

Day 2Ouarzazate – Skoura Palm Groves – Amridil Kasbah – Rose Valley – Dades Valley (Approx. 3 Hours Drive)

After breakfast, explore Ouarzazate, including the Atlas Studios, where famous movies were filmed, and the Taourirt Kasbah, one of Morocco’s most ancient and spectacular ksars. Drive east to Amridil Kasbah, surrounded by lush palm groves in Skoura, then continue to Kalaa Magouna, famous for the Rose Valley and its annual rose festival in May. Discover local rose products, including perfumes, rose water, and cosmetic oils. Continue to Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at the iconic “Monkey Fingers” rock formation and panoramic viewpoints over the valley. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Boumalne Dades.

Drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, stopping for lunch along the way. In the afternoon, reach the Sahara Desert of Merzouga. Switch to camel trekking and cross the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, pausing to enjoy a magical sunset from the top of a dune. Arrive at the luxury desert camp and experience Berber drum music, a campfire under the stars, dinner, and an overnight stay in the desert.

Day 4Explore Merzouga – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Desert Oasis (Approx. 2 Hours Drive)

Wake up early to enjoy a spectacular sunrise in the middle of the desert. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver awaits.

Spend the day exploring Merzouga and its surroundings, including sand dunes, fossil sites, mines, and hidden oases. Visit nomadic families in their handmade tents and enjoy traditional Berber tea.

Travel to Khamlia village, famous for Gnawa music and dance performances. After lunch, walk through palm groves and visit Merzouga Lake, also known as Flamingo Lake, before returning to a hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 Merzouga Dunes – Erfoud – Midelt – Cedar Forest – Ifrane – Fes (Approx. 7 Hours Drive)

Wake up early for a sunrise in the desert, then return by camel or 4×4 to Merzouga. Leave the desert to visit Rissani, an ancient capital of Tafilalet, famous for its traditional souk, then continue to Erfoud to explore fossil marble workshops.

Drive along the Ziz River, stopping for panoramic views of Ziz Valley. Have lunch in Midelt, then continue to the Cedar Forest, home to the Barbary Macaques.

Visit Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco for its alpine-style houses and cool climate. Finally, arrive in Fes, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or airport, marking the end of your 5-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour.

     Best 5 days hosted by guide Zaid. Zaid was our driver and guide for 5 days starting in Casablanca and ending in Rissani. He was a not only an incredible driver and guide he was a perfect host too. He was very knowledgable in local history of important sites but also the culture too. His personal experiences and his willingness to share his own stories gave us first hand insight into Moroccan life. I would recommend Zaid and consider yourself lucky if you have him!!!

     Wonderlust and Hazim are the best! We did a day tour at Chefchauoen with Wonderlust and our tour guide Hazim was excellent!!! Very knowledgeable, warm, and welcoming into his town. Walking around he didn't just know the town, he knew everyone in town! That made it more of a special experience as we felt like we were fully connecting with the culture. He even made sure we found some Sfinge. Delicious 😋. We met him as a tour guide and left as family. Gracias hermano.

     Zaid with Morocco made our trip!! Just finished the most amazing 6 days with Zaid- traveling to Chefchaceoun/Fes/Merzouga. Zaid was door to door our host from airport to airport. He was so knowledgeable and personable. A total pleasure to travel with. So sad our time is over. He is the best ambassador for Morocco. We all thank him For his tender care and attention to every detail!!!

     Southern Morocco It was a great experience. We covered the southern part of Morocco. Youness, our tour guide was very informative and made sure we had the best overall experience. He also made arrangements for my vegetarian friend and we had some of the best food as well. He planned out our camel ride in the Sahara desert so that we could enjoy the sunset on our way to the tents. Again, shout out to Youness, great guy and very helpful throughout the trip. Definitely going to plan a trip to the Northern parts of Morocco with these guys.

It was my husband’s second trip to Morocco with Wanderlust.  Khalid was our driver and guide. He went above and beyond expectations to keep us safe on the road. While driving he gave us fascinating insights into the culture, religion, agriculture, geography and food of his country.  He answered our questions.  He also coordinated with local guides to give us tours that were interesting to us.  For example, one of us weaves, so we met some masterful weavers working at their looms. He anticipated our needs for rest breaks, made sure restaurants were clean and served the food we desired.  We were honored that Khalid took us to his family home to enjoy meeting his family. His mother made delicious Berber pizza and a multitude of tasty treats for us.  Her tea was the BEST we had. Wanderlust booked well located and beautifully designed Riads for our stays. Many had hammams, roof top bars and excellent dining. All had large rooms or suites with decor that was fun and exotic. Over the course of 9 days, we felt that we had an excellent experience in Morocco. Winnie and Megan listened to our wishes and offered suggestions that made for a trip that was uniquely ours. We highly recommend Khalid as a driver and ambassador for his country and his Berber cultural roots.

I felt so comfortable since my arrival because they pick me up at the Menara airport, they are very nice people and I am really grateful to them. The selection of places to visit and stay for the night was perfect. We were impressed by the diversity and beauty of the country, from the imperial cities to the desert. We also had the best time with Mustafa. He was a great and highly reliable guide as well as a careful driver. He also told us lots of interesting things about Moroccon life and culture - and at the same time gave us our own space to enjoy the country. We loved listening to Berber music and would always go back for another trip with him.
